Q&A: What the Loss of Cost Sharing Subsidies Means for Rural Health Care

On this West Virginia Morning, Late last week, President Trump announced the federal government would stop Affordable Care Act subsidies to insurance companies, which the White House argues are illegal.

While the move affects just a small slice of the overall insurance market, it's been met with widespread opposition from health advocacy groups, who say it’s an attempt to further destabilize the Affordable Care Act insurance markets.

Kara Lofton sat down with Maggie Elehwany during a rural health conference last week in West Virginia. Elehwany is vice president of government affairs for the national rural health association, and says the loss of subsidies could have a big effect on rural America.

We also hear from our partners at the Allegheny Front about the effects of pipeline development in the region. Many residents are excited about the new industry. But as Julie Grant reports, others are concerned there's not enough regulation to protect waterways.
